Ten bizarre reasons for owning a pet

Having been a dog owner for most of my life, I would like to tell any potential owner that owning a dog has its ups and downs.

Still, the disadvantages (e.g. barking too much or pooping excessively) aren’t enough to deter him.

Here are a few plausible, if somewhat bizarre, reasons why you should own a dog.

1. A pet is a feast for the eyes.

First of all, dogs are a feast for the eyes. Their absolute cuteness just makes you go “aww”.

Cloudy, my little West Highland, made me laugh this morning when she crawled into my closet and insisted it was her den.

The whimsical nature of a dog simply attracts you.

2. It keeps you calm.

Aside from being cute, a dog will keep you calm. Just the mere sight of it soothes frayed nerves.

Petting a dog releases endorphins and puts you in a bad mood. It also relieves stress.

3. A pet is a good pillow.

In addition, a pet makes an excellent pillow as long as you don’t crush it with your head.

It’s definitely comfortable to at least snuggle up next to.

4. It’s fun.

Aside from the pillows, pets are fun. They are wonderful playmates and companions.

Would a person catch a ball with his teeth?

5. It can help you.

And then pets can also help you. Contrary to popular belief, they do earn a living.

Use them as doorbells, security guards or pest controllers.

6. It ensures your safety.

Speaking of guardians, dogs are great guardians. A dog is a protective creature and will defend you when necessary. It ensures your safety.

7. A pet is good entertainment.

A dog is also wonderful entertainment. It is a lively creature full of hilarious antics.

My terrier, Cloudy, likes to compete with my schnauzer, Misty, to see how he comes first in a race. I say, “Bye,” and Cloudy is eager to step in front of Misty.

She also enjoys picking up strange objects and offering them to me.

8. It helps you make friends.

Like any other pet, dogs help a thoroughly introverted person make some friends. There’s no better place to find a few than a dog park or even a veterinary clinic with a medical setting.

9. It’s not picky.

In addition, dogs are not as picky as humans. Two dogs can fight one day and be good friends the next.

10. It doesn’t ask for much.

They definitely don’t charge much. Other than a little attention or a few obedience classes, you don’t need to take him to ballet classes or choir camp.

Unless your dog is Misty, who whines when she hears the piano.

If you haven’t decided to get a dog yet, what’s stopping you?
