Chinese Spy Balloons
A Chinese spy balloon that flew over the United States earlier this year used American technology to help it gather audio-visual information,
The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday preliminary findings from a closely watched investigation. Reported citing.
An analysis by multiple US defense and intelligence agencies, the WSJ cited US officials, said it found the balloons carried commercially available US gear as well as more specialized Chinese sensors to collect photos, videos and other information.
There was also other equipment, which could be delivered to China.
The findings support the conclusion that the aircraft was intended for espionage, and not for weather monitoring, as claimed by China, the report said.
But it appears the Chinese spy balloon is not sending its eight days of data back to China via Alaska, Canada and some other nearby US states, the WSJ said.
The White House and the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In February, the US shot down a balloon that had flown over sensitive military sites, triggering a diplomatic crisis.
